Two time bombs planted by terrorists were found and defused Wednesday outside Rhein-Main Air Base, a main transit point for the 240,000 American troops in Europe The planting of the explosives was the fifth incident aimed at Americans in West German in three weeks, and was presumed to be part of the terrorists Red Army Faction's self-proclaimed war “against the American military machine." The Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker told Congress Wednesday to raise taxes and spend less if they wanted the interest rates to come down The Ladies Auxiliary of the Polk County Rescue Squad will sell ice cream Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lynn Body Shop. C. at Asheville where she is Continued On Back Page Landrum Parade Is December 5th The Landrum Christmas Parade has been set for Saturday, Dec. Sth at 2 p m. It is sponsored by the Landrum Band Boosters Club Anyone interested in entering a float may contact Lucille Duncan or Shirley Nanney. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Morris Oare of Warrenton. Va., are the parents of a son, James Reynolds Oare. born September 14. The new arrival is their second son. Mrs. Oare is the former Betty Reynolds, daughter of Mr and Mrs. J Arthur Reynolds of Warrenton. The family lived in Tryon for many years before moving to Warrenton and have returned here often to visit friends and to judge or participate in horse shows. Women’sFellowship Meets Monday The Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church of Christ will meet Monday, September 21st at 12 noon for a catered lunch, reservations only. Betty Boas, program chairman, announces that Fred Seely will talk on the famous Grove Park Inn in Asheville Mr Seely grew up in the Inn (his father designed and built it) and will relate many interesting stories about the hostelry Nursery services will be available. Football Tonight Landrum is the only local team to play at home tonight. The Cardinals play Chesnee while Tryon goes to Cherokee and Polk Central travels to Mountain Heritage. Chesnee at Landrum The Landrum Cardinals found themselves Friday night against Polk Central and hope to keep their momentum going against Chesnee. Chesnee beat Polk Central 19-3 while the Cardinals won over Polk Central 21-0. It looks like a close game with the Cardinals coming out on top. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Tryon at Cherokee The Tryon Tigers surprised everyone by beating NCSD 31-19 last Thursday night. Taking on the Cherokee Braves is another matter Cherokee shouldn't have much trouble with the Tigers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p m Polk Central at Mtn. Heritage The Polk Central Patriots Iropped their second game in a row last week against Chesnee. The Patriots have played hard, but haven’t been able to generate much offense The Patriots will olay hard again this week, but Mountain Heritage should lave too much for them. Commissioners Meet Monday The Polk County Commissioners will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the Sunny View School Gospel Singing Gospel Singing at Green, River Baptist Church Saturday, Sept 26th at 7 p.m. featuring The Harmoneers, The Allen Sisters The Jackson Family and others ’ Everyone is welcome. The Landrum High School Band is participating in the battle of the high school bands set for Furman University Stadium Sept. 26th.
